DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT (PS5)
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an upcoming action role-playing video game developed by CyberConnect2 and set to be released in January 2020 by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game focuses on adventures of Son Goku, or Kakarot, and allows players to follow his path in the iconic universe of Dragon Ball Z divided into several sagas, as know from the original manga. The main goal for developers was to recreate the universe as close to Akira Toriyama’s works as possible.
Story and Characters
DBZ: Kakarot follows the original story of Dragon Ball Z but also answers certain questions that were never answered before. As the game’s title may suggest, it focuses on adventures of Kakarot, widely known as Son Goku, as he travels with his friends in order to defend the Earth from numerous evil beings. You will meet most of the original DBZ characters in the game, both friends and foes, such as Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Frieza, Cell, and many others.
Gameplay
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is an action role-playing game played from the third-person perspective, where you can freely roam and explore the areas you are currently in, in order to find valuable items that can be used to boost your party member stats, to complete numerous main and side missions, or to participate in various side activities such as fishing.
Fighting plays a huge role in the game, and it is fairly accurate with all the techniques from manga and anime you may be already familiar with. This means you will be able to use the famous Kamehameha to obliterate your enemies while playing as Goku, or the Masenko energy wave while playing as Gohan, for example.
Reception
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot game made an impressive pre-release first impression on critics and it clearly has the potential to be one of the best Dragon Ball games up-to-date. Reviewers praised the attention to detail and how developers managed to capture the soul of the Dragon Ball. They were optimistic about fighting sequences, as well as character development through the introduced role-playing mechanics that allow players to grow stronger as they play. Reviewers also noted the exploration elements, presence of many optional side quests, and a number of activities other than fighting.
